    Siam Wood

    100% Pure Essential Oil

    Scientific name: Fokienia hodginsii

    Oil origin: Wood

    Extraction: Steam distillation

    Aroma: Sweet, woody

    Odor strength: Medium

    Evaporation: Middle note

    Origin: Vietnam

Siam wood essential oil is a beautiful and rare oil reminiscent of rosewood, sandalwood, and hints of cypress. It is a delightful aromatic addition to cosmetic applications, personal care formulations, soaps, perfumery, incense, and candles.

Siam Wood essential oil, also known as Pemou, Po Mu, Fujian Cypress, Coffin Wood, and Bois de Siam, is a precious wood oil from the evergreen conifer Fokienia hodginsii.  This not well known, and not often used essential oil in Western aromatherapy, surely deserves consideration in natural perfume and healing blend creations. It has an extremely calming and pleasant aroma for use as a base note in natural perfume and is a less costly alternative to Sandalwood. Siam Wood essential oil is very grounding and a must have for healing blends. It melds beautifully with Frankincense for a wonderful meditation blend for regaining a new positive, or transitional, perspective.

Siam Wood is native to Asia and recognized as a single genus; the only one living species classified in the subfamily Cupressoideae within the family Cupressaceae. The aromatic quality of this precious wood peaks after a tree matures to a height of 80-100 feet. Exploitation as a durable fragrant wood resource for furniture and handicrafts in Vietnam caused indiscriminate harvesting. Thankfully sound ecological replanting practices were started hopefully saving the Fokienia h. tree from similar over-harvesting situations seen with Rosewood, Sandalwood and other precious woods. Interestingly, the trunk and roots abandoned by loggers as worthless for timber are where the highest concentration of Fokienol is located and from where this natural essential oil is distilled. The main contents of this essential oil consist of over 32% Fokienol and 30% trans-nerolidol.

    Advantages

I love this oil. It's a new one for me and it goes so well with either frankincense, sweet orange and Himalayan cedarwood.

    Disadvantages

My concern is that you claim that Siam oil is a midnote when I'm pretty sure it's a base note... I'm confused.

    Comment

This being said, this EO is a definite winner.

Siam Wood has stolen my heart! It reminds me of Ho Wood (my other favorite oil) but has a sweeter smell to me. It is great for relaxing, and I love it blended with Black Spruce and any variation of Orange :) Such a great grounding oil too in my opinion. If you don't have this oil yet, run and go get it! You won't be disappointed! :)

Grounding, relaxing, great for unwinding ...

    Advantages

Woody, creamy, and smells like it has a pinch of Frankincense Sacra in it. It's too thick alone in my diffuser nebulizer so I have to dilute it with other EO's to think it out, but the aroma still comes through wonderfully! Some say it smells like Rosewood but I don't smell that at all, to me it's much more like Himalayan Cedarwood with some sacra in it.

    Disadvantages

A little too thick for my Diffuser Nebulizer (a diffuser that does not use water) so I have to dilute it with another EO, such as Atlas Cedarwood, Frankincense, etc.

    Advantages

Regarding my previous review, the dilution rate is 1% because Siam is so strong. I would do topically as needed but maybe not every single day. 2 oz of carrier oil will have 966.7 drops 10 ml of jb oil is 166 drops

    Great benefits but use caution.

Powerful benefits but use with caution!

    Advantages

I like that this is a good substitute for sandalwood. I added some to my black seed oil carrier oil. My husband put some drops on his neck for sore throat. It seemed to be soothing and helpful. We will keep this bottle on hand to use as needed/sparingly for all its wonderful benefits of rejuvenation of immune system and body toning, like a jump start. We can wear some for a hike to keep the bugs away

    Disadvantages

You have to use caution cause too much can be bad. I regret that I put about 30 drops in my new black seed carrier oil. Siam is very powerful but I wanted to use the carrier oil daily and now I can't cause there are bad side effects to using it too often. Just a few times on my face and I started getting dry eyes watering a lot. My husband is an eye tech and he said I had dry eyes symptom. I didn't put the oil on eye lids just forehead sides and cheeks but it spread somehow. Did research online and it said it is not safe for pregnant women or children and prolonged use in adults causes health problems. Too much of a good thing in this case is bad.

    Comment

Good if you use it right. Bad if you don't. Just make a small batch. Comes from a powerful tree and a small amount is powerful.

This oils scent seems to be very subtle but it really comes alive when it is blended with other oils. I love it in the diffuser mixed with Cedarwood and Neroli. Very peaceful and soothing.
