Angelica essential oil is thought to have arisen from Syria and was one of the few oils exported to the East. It is also known as “Root of the Holy Ghost” and “Angelica archangelica” due to the myth that the archangel Michael revealed its use as medicine. Angelica oil has a reputation for having an affinity for female disorders. In China, Angelica root is used to promote fertility and as a general tonic.

Angelica root essential oil has many salubrious benefits including the ability to relax tense muscles, relieve anxiety, clean infections, fight viruses, assist with respiratory ailments, help with indigestion, regulate menstruation, and aid sleep.

Angelica essential oil is antibacterial, analgesic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, appetitive, aphrodisiac, antioxidant, carminative, cephalic, depurative, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, sedative, emmenagogue, estrogenic, expectorant, febrifuge, healing, hepatic, nervine, stomachic, revitalizing, sudorific, anticoagulant, and tonic

Widely known to add flavor to food and drinks with it’s slightly sweet yet light and spicy aroma, this herb originated in Africa but rose in popularity due to being a treatment for the plague in Europe.

Jade Bloom’s Angelica Root originates from France and is steam distilled from the root of the angelica herb. It has many active ingredients with a wide variety of benefits followed by a rich, herbaceous aroma.

This oil should be avoided by diabetics (it causes an increase in urinal sugars) and pregnant women. It may cause irritation to the skin and photo-toxicity and excessive use could cause a hyperactive nervous system.

Angelica Root has many benefits, but among it’s most interesting is it’s ability to purify the blood. Being a “depurative” means that it can also lower blood pressure while removing toxins. 

Along those same lines, it is also known as a diuretic and a diaphoretic, which will promote urination and sweat to remove excess water, fats, salt and uric acid from the body.
