Our cedar leaf is derived from the is a coniferous tree in the cypress family and native to the Americas and Asia. It was introduced to Europe in the 1500’s. The leaves are rich in vitamin C and helped early settlers ward off scurvy. The tree was held in high regard by the Ojibwe tribe who heralded the tree as the “Grandmother Cedar.” Traditionally, the leaves, twigs, and bark were made into decorations to kill parasites, venereal diseases, warts, and other ailments. Cedar Leaf was also burnt as an incense to cleanse the air in ancient rituals.
Cedar Leaf Essential Oil is used primarily as a disinfectant, not as an aromatic oil. Although some aromatherapists may apply a tiny drop to shrink warts, Cedar Leaf is generally avoided because it contains thujone, a toxic chemical.
Cedar leaf essential oil is a rare and fresh addition to cosmetic applications, personal care formulations, soaps, perfumery, shampoos, incense, candles, and aromatherapy.
