Manuka essential oil is a relative to Tea Tree oil. Manuka oil is great to use in natural deodorant formulations due to its odor neutralizing qualities. Just like it's relative Tea Tree oil, Manuka leaves and the oil distilled from them are said to speed up the healing process. This is made possible due to its ability to speed up the formation of scar tissue. Diffusing Manuka oil not only creates a soothing environment but it also masks unpleasant odors.
The scientific name of Manuka is Leptospermum Scoparium and its essential oil is sometimes priced higher than the legendary and respected Australian Tea Tree oil, due to its impressive variety of medicinal applications. Its essential oil is derived from the leaves of Manuka through steam distillation. The main components of this oil are caryophyllene, geraniol, pinene, humulene, linalool, and leptospermone. There is another strange thing about this oil. The concentration of the components in this oil varies with the height of the tree where the leaves were extracted.
Manuka essential oil is antiseptic, analgesic, antifungal, sedative, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, astringent. antibiotic, and antiviral.
