What does true hyssop smell like?
June 4, 2018 1:07:40 PM MDT

I read about Hyssop in the Bible all the time. I tried a Hyssopus officinalis decumbens sample from Spain from Eden Botanicals. This at the time was my very favorite oil. So I decided to try a sample from Jade Bloom, which was more expensive than other similar size samples JB sells and about a dollar more than from EB. I can't get enough of the smell from the EB sample. However, there is nothing special about the JB sample. I only got 1ml so not worth sending back. Simply has a grass scent. Nothing special, not strong, not weak, kind of blah. Still smell it every day but is not exquisite like what came from EB. So I don't know what Hyssop really smells like. One I love and is a favorite, the other not. Can't believe these are both the same, so is one sample not really Hyssop? If so which is the real one? Might have to go to a third company to find out. And if the EB sample isn't hyssop what was that exquisite EO I received???

(N.B.-This review is based on the 1ml sample size when first released. I love the size, that it is glass, and has an orifice reducer. This is much better than the thin long glass vial samples from other companies that don't pour out. Until it all comes out all over, and all at once, and your sample is wasted after just trying to get a drop or two. This was much better but still very very difficult to even get a drop out, especially exactly where you want it. So no waste but still frustrating. If the reducer was improved it would be perfect as the size is excellent.)

I first became acquainted with Hyssop when I got a plant for my garden. The butterflies, hummingbirds and bees love it! I have become fascinated with the plant in all of it's varieties and was glad to be able to get a Hyssop oil that I could diffuse. It is calming and soothing.
