If true Lavender is the soft-spoken friend who calms you down with a look, Lavandin is her older cousin who shows up, gives you a big hug, and gets things done. Same floral, herbaceous soul... just with a little more backbone.

    What Is Lavandin, Anyway?

Lavandin is a natural hybrid of true Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and Spike Lavender, and it grows a little differently because of it. It produces more oil per plant, which is part of why you'll see it used so widely, but the real story is in the chemistry. Lavandin carries a higher concentration of camphor and cineole than true Lavender, giving it a sharper, brighter, more invigorating scent instead of Lavender's soft floral hush. Same family. Different energy.

    Common Uses

    • A favorite for aromatherapy diffuser blends, fresh and herbaceous, with more energy than true Lavender
    • A go-to essential oil for cleaning blends and DIY room sprays (that extra camphor gives it real staying power)
    • Use in soap making and bath products to intensify scent and longevity
    • Massage (properly diluted) into sore, overworked muscles for a little relief after a long day
    • Mix into a post-workout blend for that "I did the thing" body

    Try This Aromatherapy Diffuser Blend

    Fresh Start Blend

    • 3 drops Lavandin
    • 2 drops Peppermint
    • 2 drops Bergamot

Add to your diffuser with water and let it run. It's a bright, wake-up-your-senses aromatherapy blend for mornings when you need a little more "let's go" than true Lavender gives you.

    The Education Bit

Lavandin's chemical makeup is mostly linalool and linalyl acetate, the same calming compounds found in true Lavender, but with meaningfully more camphor (roughly 6-10%, compared to true Lavender's trace amounts) and 1,8-cineole. That's the difference you're smelling. It's what makes Lavandin feel more invigorating than sedating, and why it's often the one reached for when the goal is fresh and functional rather than float-away-to-sleep.

    Why Choose Lavandin

Because sometimes you want all the essential oil benefits you love about Lavender... but with a little more oomph. Lavandin is the practical choice: more affordable, more readily available, and better suited for cleaning, laundry, and anything that needs a scent with real lasting power. If true Lavender is your soul's blanket, Lavandin is your "let's get this house smelling amazing and get on with the day" oil.

    Pairs Beautifully With

    • Eucalyptus, for a crisp, clear, take-a-deep-breath moment
    • Peppermint, energizing and cooling, a great combo for tired muscles
    • Bergamot, softens Lavandin's sharper edge with something citrusy and warm
    • Rosemary, an herbaceous, focus-forward pairing
    • Cedarwood, grounds it out with something woodsy and steady

A Few Cautions Before You Dive In

Always dilute properly before applying to skin. Lavandin's higher camphor content means it's more stimulating than true Lavender, so it's not the one for winding down before bed... reach for true Lavender instead. Avoid use on broken or irritated skin and burns, as it can worsen irritation. Not recommended for children under 6, and check with your doctor before use if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing a heart condition. As always, do a patch test first and keep out of reach of little ones and pets.

Smells amazing and is very relaxing. My son has ADHD and we use it in his diffuser at night as well as spray some on his pillow. It helps him calm down and fall asleep with ease.

My son gave me this as a Christmas gift and I was delighted. The scent is soft and beautiful, not overpowering. I use it in place of lavender in recipes and on my pillow.

I might not have tried this if not for a special and it quickly became a favorite. I use it directly on my face, next, and arms to keep my skin looking good. The redness is less and my acne prone skin is not being set off by the oil. Skin is softer,,,smells heavenly too. I’m still trying to figure out how best to use this oil. It’s got some amazing potential benefits, but the odor is strong enough (to me) to change the fragrance of some blends I use regularly. Will be trying it in pain and healing blends. To me, it has a slightly fishy smelling odor. I tried galbanum on a whim since I like to try everything. It smells earthy to me with a bit of a mossy wetness too it. I put a dab on of this, with the other two oils I got at the same time, and accidentally made a blend I love – frankincense, fir needle and galbanum. Very grounding to me. Was trying to make a blend for my daughter, and we determined for her skin, this was the scent that came off as dusty smelling. On my perm list of oils for its fragrance properties. This oil might make one think they’d opened a chili sauce instead of an essential oil. Have intended to try it with other oils also touted for pain relief. In trying to reproduce a certain fragrance for my daughter, this was necessary and it really brought a different depth to balance some of the overpowering citrus. Will still try for pain and muscle aches, but something to keep close by while blending to see what results. This is very nicely priced for a floral oil. Smells a bit spicy and maybe slightly smoky to me. Will be a pleasure to experiment with it. I have all three frankincense oils Jade Bloom carries (Sacra, Serrata and Carterri) . The sacra intrigued me the most, but I really can’t tell any difference by fragrance. I use them interchangeably, and while divine to get to experience the benefits of each type, I will likely stick to the Serrata at less than $7 for 10 ml. What a treat to have nicely priced frankincense! I have all three frankincense oils Jade Bloom carries (Sacra, Serrata and Carterri) . I had to try all of them and the Caterri didn’t seem very different by look or smell. I use them interchangeably now, and may combine them in another rbottle as this is what a larger company does for their frankincense at $70 for 15 ml!!! While divine to get to experience the benefits of each type, I will likely stick to the Serrata at less than $7 for 10 ml. What a treat to have nicely priced frankincense! JB’s Blue tansy is the second company I’ve gotten this oil from and it is a treat. I mix with Tangerine for a blues buster blend, but it will keep your skin blue for a while if you don’t dilute it well! A wonderful luxury product. This oil is very gummy and sticky, and will require heating up the bottle in a glass of hot water to get some out of the bottle. It’s a strong and deep fragrance that can add depth to a blend. Seemed to emulsify with witch hazel, but the solution was still rather sticky. Another of the luxury line, Jasmine is the exotic, sweet smelling oil many fragrances are based on. I’ve used this in unscented lotion base and as a roll on. A great product. As I don’t ingest essential oils, wasn’t sure what I was going to do with this one. I used on toothpicks to help combat smoking…dilute first HOT oil!!! Nice fragrance offsetting element (deepens or dramatically changes the fragrance of another oil). This is the second of the lip balms I’ve tried. Could just be the batch, but this one feels a bit grainier than the Protect one that became an immediate favorite. Even with this texture, still prefer over the waxy lip balms I’m accustomed to. Love Rosemary, especially with Bergamot, which I use as a brain fog clearer. Great value. Argan is the best of the carrier oils for use in my dry, brittle hair. I put on for about 30 minutes before washing and it gives it some health and shine for several days. I’ve used this is my hair to help with its recent change to a dry and brittle state. Worked nicely, but I prefer Argan for regular use. Love the value for this great product. Only got 5 ml for more than twice the price at an MLM, and no difference! Love to use with bergamont and frank. Clove I find clove to be quite grounding for me, and I love the spicy scent that makes other oils more complex in aroma. Can over power your blend if not careful! Great value. I sometimes use Allspice when I want to add a spicy depth that would normally need Nutmeg, cinnamon or clove. Great addition to the oil collection. I can’t tell the difference between Lavandin, Kashmir Lavender and Bulgarian Lavender. All are wonderful, and if you find a preference, one is not so much more expensie than the other than it is prohibitive. All are floral-y and soapy and instantly calm the nerves. I sniff right from the bottle.
