The essential oil is extracted from the seeds of this tree through steam distillation method. The naturally spicy, warm, woody, peppery, rich and floral aroma has made its use remarkable since the pre-historic period. Ayurvedic system of natural healing has used Tomar seeds for treating numerous health conditions including oral problems and this is the main reason why this tree has been named as Toothache tree. The social and ethnic groups in the Uttaranchal Himalaya use Zanthoxylum armatum for medicine, food, and barter. This tree is regarded to have religious importance and magical powers. Every part of the tree including the fruits, bark, stem and fresh leaves are used for various purposes. The decoction extracted from the bark or fruits or seeds of this tree was used as a sweet-smelling tonic for treating cholera and fever. It is used as a trusted remedy for treating cough, stomach problems, common cold, toothache, and fever.

So happy to find this oil, my grandpa in India used to only use Dabur Red toothpaste, because of the Tomar seed. I do not like the minty taste of most toothpastes and this along with Clove( another one of Dabur's toothpastes) is going to be a good alternative for me! Thanks Jade Bloom!

I hit a nerve with some cold food and the pain would not go away even after half an hour. I mixed up a few drops each of tomar, clove, and myrrh in the nearly empty clove bottle and filled to the top with water and shook to mix. Then I poured a very small amount into about an ounce of water in a cup and swished to rinse around the hurting tooth. The pain went away immediately.

After a slight toothache required a dental visit, I got the oils of Tomar Seed and Clove Bud. Both have helped my mouth feel better, and after several uses I finally got the irritant out from between my teeth. I'll continue using it because it feels and smells great.
