Get to know Jade Bloom Team Member Adam Thomson -- July 29, 2016

This week we want you to meet team member Adam Thomson (partner in crime with our amazing photographer Smay Thomson).  We caught Adam in action in this picture demonstrating his remarkable talent of talking 2 customers at the same time while finalizing his notes for our morning kickoff meeting, and somehow still managed to annihilate a cup of coffee.  Adam keeps our office buzzing, but don't even think about neglecting a broken Keurig.  You too can have a firm natural hold to your hair like Adam with our soon-to-be-released TAME pomade.  You may have received a package signed by Adam that says "I wish we could high-five right now!"  Meet Adam!

Adam

What is your favorite Jade Bloom product, and why?

I would have to say that our line of deodorants are my favorite Jade Bloom products. I am particularly enamored with the Cedarwood Orange aroma. I lift my arms up periodically throughout the day so that I can smell myself. I look insane, but I feel amazing. I love that it serves to assist in wetness protection and that I am not putting any talcum powder or toxins onto my skin.

What do you do in your spare time? What do you wish you could do in your spare time?

I spend a lot of my spare time with my wife, Smay, who also works for Jade Bloom. She puts up with my odd humor, my insecurities, my struggles, and my moodiness with immense love and grace. She is my best friend. I also spend a lot of my down time making music. I am a musician and have been playing instruments for over a decade now. Music is one of the only forms of art that I am truly passionate about. I get to play music with the band at my church quite frequently; it is one of my favorite things in the world to do. I also listen to a lot of Christian apologetics podcasts. One, in particular, is the “Reasonable Faith” podcast with Dr. William Lane Craig. I find his knowledge and logical approach to the defense of Christianity inspiring and incredibly well presented.

What do I wish I could do?

I wish I was more motivated to play music at open mics. I have a dream of writing, recording, and mastering my own music. It’s odd to me that the things in my life that I am responsible to (doing my job, being a good husband, following through with commitments, etc) I take very seriously, but hobbies and passions outside of those things take 2nd, 3rd, or more accurately, 10th priority. I wish this wasn’t so.

Also… Jump off stuff.

Tell us your best joke.

I don’t understand the term “sweet nothing” as it is most notably used. Have you ever looked at your schedule and seen that you have nothing to do, so you say, “Sweet! Nothing!” That is the sweetest nothing.

I told this joke just moments ago to my co-workers, and they didn’t even give me a pity laugh. But, the question does say “Tell us YOUR best joke”. So I came up with an original. I hope someone laughs...Please? I’ll take a pity laugh...

Complete this sentence: “There are two types of people in this world; there are people who___ and there are people who___.”

There are people who think the band Radiohead is amazing, and those who have good taste…

Just kidding!

In all seriousness,

This is pretty much the same as Jackie’s, but it resonates with me. She is very smart…

There are those who are on a truth quest, and those who are on a happiness quest.

Why are natural products important to you?

Natural products are important to me because I believe in paying respect where respect is due. Nature has always been giving us solutions to many health problems, so instead of using something synthesized to mimic what nature can provide, I find it important to credit the source.

If you could brunch with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? And what would be on the menu?

Nick Offerman. We would eat steak and drink whiskey in silence.

Favorite quote from your favorite movie. GO!

One? Insanity.

“Did he just throw my cat out the window?”- The Grand Budapest Hotel

“Come on Frank, say yes, and I’ll buy you some new deodorant.”- Fletch

“60% of the time it works every time.”- Anchorman

“I want to see more of you around the lab”

“Fine. I’ll gain weight.”-Real Genius

“We’re not laughing at you - we’re laughing near you”-Dead Poets Society

“Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.” - Billy Madison

I could go on forever, but I’ll leave it at that...

Jade Bloom’s mission is to deliver Health, Healing, and Happiness to as many people as possible. What is YOUR mission statement?

Love others well. Seek truth at any cost.

What is something you’re exceptional at? What is something you’re dreadful at?

This is a hard question to answer, and NOT sound conceded, but I’ll go for it. I am an exceptional musician. I can play the guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, drums, and I love to sing. I am also very good at empathizing with others. Especially those who have been through addiction. I am a recovering drug addict, and I recently celebrated 3 years of sobriety. I have been the ministry leader for a support group called Celebrate Recovery for 2 years, and have led two 12 step programs with other men who are struggling with different areas of addiction, divorce, infidelity, and anger. Through all of this I have learned many things about the human condition, and how it affects me. I am very good at staying true to myself, and setting healthy boundaries when necessary.

I sound like an angel, right? Wrong!

I am extremely self-centered, and I am currently working on my issue of self-righteousness. I find myself judging many people in my life, and I recognize how damaging that can be to my relationships. I am very insecure. I care deeply about what other people think about me. Sometimes this need to be liked can be crippling… I’m working on this, but It’s difficult.

Too much information? Sorry… This is me. :)
